For 15 years, the Women’s Board of the Adler Planetarium has recognized trailblazing women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with the goal of inspiring young women to pursue careers in these disciplines. We are SOOO excited to announce that this year’s honoree for the Adler Planetarium’s Women in Space Science Award is a Purdue Alum!! She is Beth Moses, who received her Bachelor’s (’92) and Master’s (’94) degrees in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University and is now Program Manager and Chief Astronaut Instructor at Virgin Galactic. Her husband, Mike Moses, is President of Virgin Galactic and also a Purdue Alum and will be present at the award luncheon!
Beth’s team is in charge of designing and building the training program, equipment, and facilities at Spaceport America to prepare future astronauts for spaceflight on Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, the world’s first commercial spaceline! Prior to Virgin Galactic, she was at NASA where she served as the Spacewalk System Manager for the International Space Station (ISS).
We hope this thrilling news encourages you to help celebrate and give her a great show of support by spreading the word to Chicagoland and neighbors about the Award Luncheon at The Drake Hotel in Chicago, IL on Thursday, May 11th at 11:30 AM where Beth will be the keynote speaker.
Individual tickets at $175 as well as table sponsorship are available here. After purchasing your ticket(s), please email Kate Brueggmann at firstname.lastname@example.org to ask to be seated with fellow Boilermakers.
Captain Donna Beering (’84 AAS TECH, ’86 BS TECH) is this year’s WISS Chair and is looking forward to seeing a HUGE Boilermaker crowd!! Ralph Amos, President and CEO of the Purdue Alumni Association and Courtney Magnuson, Director, Regional Alumni Outreach and Engagement are also attending.
